INTERWOVEN ECOSYSTEMS

INSTALLED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE HOMES & HABITATS EXHIBIT AT LEWIS GINTER BOTANICAL GARDEN, our design begins with a whimsical interpretation of a human habitat, in the form of a “skewed” house. The piece uses forced perspective to play with our visual perception of how a 3-D object should appear in space. Anchored to the house is a floating island wetland that mimics nature to enhance water quality, encourage the growth of microbes critical to the ecosystem, and provide habitat for pollinator species and fish. Our partners at Floating Islands West manufacture each island from post-consumer recycled material.

The piece invites visitors to explore the interconnectedness of habitats, and the vital relationships between plants, animals, and humans. Through this sculpture, we aim to entwine art and nature in a way that sparks joy, fosters a sense of belonging, and inspires conversations about environmental resilience.

ON DISPLAY AT LEWIS GINTER BOTANICAL GARDEN March 29 – September 28, 2025.
